Today’s Trading Edge: Oil remains heavy as supply concerns weigh on prices

Oil prices initially rallied in NY after OPEC support for continuing their supply cut agreement into second half of year is reportedly increasing.  They also noted that they would require non-OPEC participation to extend agreement.  The markets ignored the prospect of a possible extension of supply cuts as concerns remain strong on growing US oil output and high inventories.

(Oct 19 Bloomberg) Oil rose for a second day on signs the world's largest producers will honor a deal to pare a surplus, boosting currencies of exporters including the ruble, while Chinese economic data damped demand for equities.

Today’s Trading Edge: Oil started the trading week soft on oversupply concerns and falling shale production forecasts

Oil prices tentatively fell below the $50.00 handle to start the trading week, but has since risen back towards the $50.60 level. Earlier in NY, the EIA monthly report showed that total US shale regions oil production forecast to decline 30K bpd m/m to 4.43 million barrels per day in November.  Nigeria and Iran also stated various production target goals that weighed on the oversupply concerns.
