Market News

Markets were lower in the morning as earnings season is under way. JP Morgan (JPM) posted a profit of $5.91 billion and plans to lift the dividend to $.44. JPM is up 1.5% by mid-day to 63.08. Wells Fargo (WFC) beat estimates reporting $5.8 billion, $1.04 per share on a consensus of .98 cents per share. Although positive results, WFC was trading lower after the release possibly on margin concerns.

Some merger news surfaced today about Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) and Nokia (NOK) but nothing definitive yet. If these talks continue investors will look closely at the terms of a cash/stock deal or some combination along with which assets would be acquired.
