Market Best Performer Worst Performer Comments
Forex AUDNZD NZDUSD The Kiwi, which had already been under severe pressure after Wheeler's comments last week, began the week by getting clobbered after PM Key said fair value is around 0.6500 and a RBNZ report showed that currency sales (intervention) for August were the most in 7 years.
Equity Nasdaq 100 Hang Seng Escalation of pro-democracy protests after the Chinese government reneged on its promise to grant full democracy by 2017 (quelle surprise) saw Hong Kong stocks continue their sell off. Most major global stocks ended in the red again as the ebullience that had characterized these markets seems to be ebbing just a bit. Of course, the other possibility is that this is just a function of the month/quarter-end reallocation process.
Commodity Natural Gas Silver Speculation of greater demand as winter approaches and a contract rollover saw natural gas prices rally.
A technical analysis indicator used to try and determine the short-term trend of the market. The pivot point is the average of the high, low and closing prices from the previous trading day. If the market in the following day trades above the pivot point it is thought to be exhibiting bullish sentiment, whereas trading below the pivot point is seen as bearish.
