Currency speculators raised their bets against the U.S. dollar for the third straight week, according to data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission released on Friday and one major house calculation.
Though still small by historical standards. the value of the dollar's net short position rose to $3.64 billion in the week ended October 22 compared with a net short position of $1.24 billion the week of October 15. The week of October 8 was the first net short position since the week of February 12.
The CFTC is still clearing the backlog from the government shutdown.
Speculators appear not to be getting carried away in bets against the dollar but they are definitely not betting on the dollar.
