U.S. Data Calendar Heavy and FOMC Adds to the Drama

Data calendar picks up in the week ahead. Monday has industrial output and capacity utilization for August. Tuesday has the consumer price index for August, Treasury International Capital flows (TICs) for July and the NAHB housing market index for September. Housing starts and building permits for August come out on Wednesday. The second quarter current account is release Thursday along with existing home sales for August, and the Phlly Fed index for September. All wil influence trading.
The big meeting this week is the policy setting meeting by the U.S. Federal Reserve on Tuesday, Sept 17 and Wednesday Sept 18. Everyone is looking to see whether the Federal Open Market Committee will begin tapering its asset purchase program. The statement and forecasts will be released on the second day. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke holds his media briefing after the statement.
Other Fed speakers in the coming week. Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland President Sandra before the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland 2013 Policy Summit on Housing, Human Capital, and Inequality on Thursday. No Q&A.
Friday has the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City President Esther George at the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research Shadow Open Market Committee meeting. Audience Q&A expected. Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis President Narayana Kocherlakota gives an academic talk at NYU Stern School of Business also on Friday with audience Q&A. Expect some comments on the previous Wednesday's meeting. trading Bernanke
