Few U.S. Data Drivers in the Coming Week

Posted by WorldWideMarkets . on Aug 19, 2013 3:33:00 AM
Light week for U.S. data. Wednesday sees July existing home sales and the FOMC minutes from the July 30 to 31 meeting. Thursday has weekly intitial claims. Friday has July new home sales. Expect other drivers in FX markets than the U.S. in one of the final dull trading weeks of summer though given last week's reaction to the drop in initial weekly jobless claims, that report will be more closely watched than usual.
Not even a major Fed speaker on the cards though Fed officials are gathering in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for the annual gathering on Thursday and Friday. Comments from attending policymakers will be interesting but Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke will not be present though it's reported Vice Chair Janet yellen will be. As always, look for the unexpected.
Elesewhere, the Reserve Bank of Australia will release the minutes from the August meeting on Tuesday. Japan will release their July trade balance on Monday. China will release their August HSBC flash manufacturing PMI  on Thursday. The Euro area flash PMI is slated for Thursday, followed by consumer confidence on Friday. Expect consumer confidence to post its ninth straight monthly rise. The UK will release public sector borrowings on Wednesday and a revised second quarter GDP estimate on Friday.dollar trading
