Economic Statistics: Japan Tertiary Index falls

Posted by Akhilesh Ganti on May 14, 2013 8:10:00 PM

Japan’s tertiary industry activity index, which measures the change in the total value of services purchased by businesses, came out at a reading of -1.3% for March. This was a larger decline than both the -0.6% that the market was expecting and the +1.2% figure of the previous month. Though this is a second tier data series, it highlights the dire straits that the Japanese economy finds itself in and the difficulties that the BOJ will face as it embarks on the re-inflating process.
