Australia GDP rises +3.1% annually, +0.6% in 4Q

Posted by Akhilesh Ganti on Mar 5, 2013 7:41:00 PM

Australia GDP posted a +3.1% on an annual basis, slightly higher than the +2.9% that the economists were expecting. 4Q came in at +0.6% while the prior quarter was revised from +0.5% to +0.7%. The other key components also showed that the economy, while not exactly booming, was showing signs of having stabilized from its downtrend which has to come as welcome news for the RBA and the "risk-on" crowd. The Aussie and the other majors gained versus the US dollar off this news.
