Tokyo Buys Fuel in Riyadh

Posted by Joseph Trevisani on Feb 7, 2013 2:54:00 PM

Nikkei News noted that Economy Minister Motegi will travel to Saudi Arabia this weekend to conclude an agreement with the Gulf country to provide Japan with emergency oil supplies upon request. The deal, intended to protect the Japanese economy from energy shocks, is part of an agreement that will also see the two countries set up a ministerial hotline. From Saudi Arabia, Motegi will move on to Abu Dhabi, part of a trip to strengthen ties with the Middle East at a time when Japan is increasingly reliant on fossil fuels.
